Project 175

2007, Seoul
Competition

The competition brief asked for the space of an existing multi-storey building to be extended and adapted to suit mixed use occupancy. Inspired by the diagram of a squid, we conceived the new addition to hover over the existing structure, with linking volumes threading through the floors below.

The links add new circulation routes and bring daylight into the centre of the building. While the programme is conceived to be primarily commercial and cultural, the new links allow for a multitude of future scenarios. As prefabricated steel system, the proposal is independent from the original building and easy to assemble. Adaptions of the existing façade, such as timber fins and glazing, reflect the new internal programme with its shifting public and private nature.
